Man Accused of Shooting at Sacramento’s ABC Affiliate Released on Bail
The man accused of opening fire at Sacramento’s ABC affiliate KXTV has been released on bail, just one day after his dramatic arrest.
Authorities confirmed that 64-year-old Anibal Hernandez Santana was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff at his River Park apartment complex. Investigators say witnesses linked a white hatchback to the shooting, which ultimately led officers to Santana’s residence.
Eyewitness video captured the tense takedown, showing heavily armed SWAT personnel surrounding the 32-unit building. “We made eye contact, and right as he passed my windshield, I heard a loudspeaker with officers shouting, ‘Get down on the ground or we’re going to shoot,’” one neighbor recalled.
Neighbors say Santana lived quietly in the building and rarely drew attention. “Every day you see that person, and to hear about the kind of thing they are capable of—it’s crazy,” said another resident.
Police told KCRA they requested a bail enhancement, which was granted. Santana was booked on three felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, and firing into an inhabited building.
He was initially held on $200,000 bail before being released earlier today, leaving many neighbors unsettled. “We all have to go to sleep here, and it’s hard when you don’t know all the information,” one resident said.
