Police Seize 24 Pounds of Cocaine in Indiana’s Largest Drug Bust in Three Years

A routine traffic stop in Whitestown, Indiana, turned into a major drug bust after police discovered nearly $200,000 worth of cocaine inside a vehicle Monday night.

According to the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, officers confiscated 24.5 pounds of cocaine packaged in ten large, silver-wrapped bundles found in a duffel bag inside the car of 36-year-old Tionia Britany Miles.

Capt. John Jurkash said it’s the largest quantity of narcotics seized by the department not just this year, but in the past three years. The stop happened around 8:30 p.m. on southbound I-65 near the Boone County Road 550 South exit.

Officers initially pulled the vehicle over after detecting a strong odor of marijuana — which remains illegal in Indiana — leading them to search the car. Police K9 Jeter helped locate the drugs.

“This is a pretty significant one that I just hope the community sees and appreciates the hard work and dedication that our officers are putting in,” Jurkash said, noting the department’s K9 teams have made over 100 narcotics busts this year.

Miles, an Indianapolis resident, was booked into Boone County Jail on preliminary felony charges of dealing cocaine. Investigators say they are still determining whether the drugs were intended for distribution in Indianapolis.
