Passengers rushed to evacuate Dubai International Airport after Iranian strikes targeted major travel hubs across the Persian Gulf, triggering widespread panic and global travel disruption.
Dramatic scenes unfolded inside one of the world’s busiest airports as smoke filled corridors and debris scattered across concourses. Officials confirmed that four airport staff were injured, and emergency crews responded quickly to contain damage described as minor to airport infrastructure.
The strikes are part of a broader wave of Iranian retaliation across the region following the death of Iran’s supreme leader in joint US-Israeli military operations. Explosions were reported in multiple major Gulf cities, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Manama.
Dubai’s airport, a key international transit hub and home base for Emirates, temporarily suspended flights, contributing to a cascading shutdown of air travel across the Middle East. Airspace closures forced airlines around the world to cancel or reroute flights, stranding thousands of passengers.
Elsewhere in the United Arab Emirates, a drone strike at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport killed one person and injured several others. In Bahrain and Qatar, missiles were intercepted overhead while airport facilities sustained damage.
Normally crowded tourist centers became unusually quiet as residents stayed indoors, stocked up on supplies and sought shelter. Some travelers attempted to leave by road, while others remained stranded in hotels or makeshift accommodations as airports halted operations.
Major airlines including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways and several international carriers suspended service to affected destinations, warning disruptions could continue for days.
The strikes have transformed some of the world’s busiest and most stable travel hubs into conflict zones, underscoring the growing regional impact of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
