Air Canada Plane Collides with Firetruck at LaGuardia, Airport Shuts Down for Hours
A deadly collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport has raised serious questions about runway safety after an Air Canada plane struck a firetruck shortly after landing.
Authorities say the crash happened Sunday night and resulted in the deaths of the pilot and co-pilot. Dozens of passengers on board the aircraft were injured, along with two people inside the firetruck.
The incident forced a ground stop and led to the airport shutting down operations for approximately 14 hours. Flights resumed Monday afternoon around 2 p.m. Eastern Time, though officials say at least one runway could remain closed for several days as the investigation continues.
Investigators are now working to piece together exactly what led to the collision. Early reports indicate the aircraft had just landed when it came into contact with the emergency vehicle on the runway.
The crash has sparked renewed concerns about coordination and safety protocols on active runways, especially at one of the nation’s busiest airports.
Officials have not yet released a final cause, and the investigation remains ongoing.

A fire broke out Thursday morning at the KESQ News Channel 3 station in Thousand Palms, disrupting its morning broadcast. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
