Oscars to Leave Hollywood for Downtown Los Angeles Starting in 2029
The Academy Awards are preparing for a major move, leaving Hollywood for a new home in Downtown Los Angeles.
Beginning in 2029, the Oscars will relocate from the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard to the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Dolby Theatre has hosted the Oscars since 2002 and was specifically designed for the ceremony, becoming a centerpiece of Hollywood’s entertainment identity. But the upcoming change marks a shift toward a new era for the awards show.
The Peacock Theater, which already hosts major events like the Primetime Emmy Awards, will undergo upgrades ahead of the transition. Organizers say the surrounding L.A. Live complex will serve as the new backdrop for the iconic Oscars red carpet.
The move will also coincide with a major change in how audiences watch the ceremony. Starting in 2029, the Oscars will stream on YouTube, signaling a shift away from traditional broadcast platforms.
The awards will remain at the Dolby Theatre through 2028, which will mark the 100th Oscars ceremony, before the transition downtown.
The relocation highlights how one of Hollywood’s most iconic events is evolving with changing audiences, technology, and the entertainment landscape.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders.
