TSA Pay Resumes Amid Shutdown, But Airport Delays Expected to Continue
TSA agents across the country are set to begin receiving pay again starting Monday, following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump amid the ongoing partial government shutdown.
The move is intended to provide relief to thousands of Transportation Security Administration workers who have gone without pay for weeks. However, officials warn that it may not immediately fix the long lines and delays seen at airports nationwide.
At major hubs like Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, travelers reported arriving hours early due to extended wait times at security checkpoints.
The delays are largely tied to staffing shortages, as many TSA agents have called out or quit during the shutdown. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson says more than 500 agents have left their jobs, while thousands more have been absent.
Even with pay resuming, it could take time for workers to receive their full compensation, and it remains uncertain how quickly staffing levels will recover.
Officials say the situation depends on how many agents return to work and how many positions remain unfilled.
In the meantime, passengers are being advised to plan ahead, arrive early, and expect continued delays as the busy spring travel season continues.
