Golden Toilet Sculpture Appears on National Mall Targeting President Donald Trump
A new piece of political art is turning heads—and sparking conversation—on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
A sculpture featuring a throne topped with a golden toilet has appeared near the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, drawing crowds of curious visitors and plenty of reaction.
The installation was created by a group known as Secret Handshake and is intended as political commentary aimed at President Donald Trump.
The display includes a plaque titled “A Throne Fit for a King,” with an inscription that criticizes the president while using humor and satire to make its point. Visitors have been stopping to take photos, with some even posing on the sculpture.
Reactions have been mixed. Some say the piece is a creative expression of free speech and political opinion, while others view it as controversial or disrespectful.
The group behind the installation has previously created similar politically themed artwork, including pieces referencing Trump and other high-profile figures.
As with many forms of public art—especially those tied to politics—the golden toilet sculpture is generating discussion about the role of satire, free expression, and the boundaries of public displays in one of the nation’s most visible spaces.
