Historic Gettysburg Flag From 1863 Goes on Public Display for First Time
A historic American flag tied to one of the most pivotal moments in U.S. history is now on public display for the first time in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
The flag, flown in 1863 as Union troops returned following the Battle of Gettysburg, had remained preserved in archives for more than a century. Now, it is being showcased as part of a new exhibit, giving the public a rare opportunity to view the artifact up close.
Historians say the flag was raised by a young man named Daniel Skelly, who climbed onto the roof of a building to display it as soldiers marched through the town. The worn and tattered flag now serves as a powerful symbol of resilience and national pride during a defining moment in American history.
The artifact is the centerpiece of the “Spirit of 1776” exhibit at the Beyond the Battle Museum, which coincides with the Gettysburg Film Festival.
Organizers say the display not only honors the past but also helps connect modern audiences to the nation’s journey as it approaches its 250th anniversary.
The exhibit is free and open to the public, offering visitors a unique chance to experience a piece of living history.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
