Eric Swalwell Drops Out of California Governor Race Amid Misconduct Allegations
Eric Swalwell has announced he will withdraw from the California governor’s race following allegations of sexual misconduct that quickly derailed his campaign.
The controversy sparked an immediate fallout, with several staff members resigning and key Democratic supporters publicly urging him to step aside. The rapid unraveling of his campaign left little path forward, as political backing and internal operations weakened within days.
Swalwell, who had positioned himself as a contender in the race, now exits amid mounting scrutiny and pressure from within his own party. The allegations have not only shifted the dynamics of the gubernatorial contest but also raised broader questions about accountability and candidate vetting in high-profile races.
His departure reshapes the California governor’s race, opening the field further as other candidates look to gain momentum. Political observers say the speed of the campaign’s collapse highlights how quickly support can evaporate when serious allegations surface.
