Pebble Beach Fashion Show Celebrates Cancer Survivors with Old Hollywood Glamour

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — The scenic coastline of Pebble Beach served as the backdrop for a day of celebration, resilience, and glamour as the American Cancer Society hosted its annual Monterey fashion show. Held at the Inn at Spanish Bay, the event focused on providing cancer survivors with a day of beauty and an emotional reprieve from the challenges of their diagnoses.

Behind the scenes, the atmosphere was one of transformation. Every model participating in the show was a cancer survivor, receiving professional makeovers and high-end fashion styling. For many, the day was about more than just clothing; it was a significant milestone in celebrating their journey to the "other side" of a difficult battle.

For survivors like Razya, who overcame breast cancer, the event offered a way to push back against the fear and anxiety that often consume those in treatment. She shared how leaning into her faith and practicing meditative breathing helped her remain strong for her daughter during her darkest moments. The fashion show provided a space where that strength could be recognized and celebrated by the community.

The event also served as a critical platform for health advocacy. Abby Taylor-Silva, a survivor of stage three colon cancer, used her time on the runway to highlight the life-saving importance of routine screenings. Taylor-Silva noted that she had no idea she was ill until blood work and subsequent screenings caught the advanced cancer, urging others not to push off routine doctor visits.

This year’s theme, "Old Hollywood," added a touch of classic elegance to the proceedings. The models donned intricate hats and fascinators designed and donated by Kathleen Kelley. Kelley, who describes her contribution as "joyous work," expressed her awe for the courage of the men and women taking the stage after facing such terrifying health challenges.

What started over 30 years ago as a small gathering of friends has grown into a major fundraiser for cancer research and patient support. Organizers emphasized that while the event has expanded, its core mission remains a simple act of friends showing up for friends, providing a "golden star" of a day that allows survivors to momentarily forget their struggles and feel like superstars.
