Brothers Celebrate 48 Years of Dedicated Service at Cincinnati Skyline Chili Location

When Dan Junker wraps up his shift at the local Skyline Chili, he still keeps his work gloves on just long enough to prepare his favorite meal: a classic three-way and two cheese coneys. For the 70-year-old Norwood native, the meal is a familiar comfort, representing nearly five decades of consistency, hard work, and a unique family partnership alongside his brother, Doug.

The Junker brothers share a workplace bond that is virtually unprecedented in the modern restaurant industry. Pinned proudly to their uniform shirts are custom name tags that display their start date: 1978. While most part-time schedules are light, Dan still clocks in five days a week at the Oakley neighborhood location, wrapping up his duties in the early afternoon, while Doug serves as the regional director of catering.

The path to a 48-year career was nearly cut short on day one. When the brothers first entered the workforce at the original Norwood Skyline Chili location, the surrounding neighborhood was anchored by a massive General Motors automobile manufacturing facility. On local paydays, the restaurant would become overwhelmingly crowded with factory workers, creating an intense, high-pressure environment. Doug admits that his very first shift left him feeling so overwhelmed that he initially wanted to quit on the spot.

Decades later, both brothers express immense gratitude that they stuck with the job. Their long-term coworkers note that while Dan and Doug possess very different personalities, their natural, witty interactions bring a unique energy to the dining room every Wednesday when their shifts overlap. Old photographs laid out on the restaurant counter display a lifetime of shared memories outside of work, including family weddings, tropical vacations, and trips to see the Cincinnati Reds.

The brothers attribute their decades of workplace longevity to a shared piece of wisdom, noting that if you truly love what you do, you will never feel like you are working a day in your life. While loving the job is essential, the duo emphasizes that the people you share the journey with are just as critical. Standing with his arm around his brother, Doug expressed excitement for the future, noting that they are looking forward to continuing their legacy in the community for years to come.

Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
