Garden Grove Residents Demand Accountability After Chemical Tank Crisis
Emotions ran high in Garden Grove as residents voiced frustration during a special city council meeting focused on the chemical tank incident that forced thousands to evacuate last week.
The meeting centered on the response to the crisis involving GKN Aerospace, the company at the center of the emergency after a leaking chemical tank triggered widespread evacuation orders and public safety concerns.
Now that evacuation orders have been lifted, many residents say they are still seeking answers about how the situation was handled and what safeguards will be put in place moving forward.
Community members spoke before the council, sharing stories of confusion, fear and frustration, while questioning why a facility handling hazardous materials was allowed to operate near homes and neighborhoods.
Several residents criticized local and state leaders, saying more should have been done to protect impacted families and improve communication during the emergency response.
City leaders emphasized that holding GKN accountable remains a top priority, with council members pledging to push for answers and stronger protections for the community.
The incident has sparked broader concerns about industrial safety, emergency preparedness and oversight of facilities operating near residential areas in Orange County.
