Trump pardons six individuals for Clean Air Act violations following White House review
President Donald Trump has issued pardons for six individuals convicted of violating the federal Clean Air Act, according to a White House announcement and a statement posted on Truth Social.
Trump described the individuals as having been “persecuted by the Biden Administration” over emissions-related offenses, specifically referencing cases tied to vehicle “defeat devices,” software or systems used to bypass environmental controls. He said the pardons were intended to correct what he characterized as unfair prosecutions.
The White House did not release the names of the six individuals or provide detailed descriptions of their cases. However, a senior administration official confirmed the pardons followed a meeting at the White House involving senior staff earlier in the day.
The Clean Air Act is a major federal law designed to regulate air pollution and limit emissions from vehicles, industrial sources, and other contributors to air quality concerns. Enforcement of the law has included criminal cases in situations involving deliberate circumvention of emissions systems.
