New Mexico Attorney General Accuses DOJ of Withholding Epstein Ranch Files
New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez is accusing the U.S. Justice Department of withholding access to unredacted files connected to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, saying the delay is affecting the state’s investigation into allegations tied to Epstein’s Zorro Ranch property.
In a letter to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Torrez argued that continued delays could make it more difficult for investigators to build a potential case, citing concerns that witnesses may become harder to reach and evidence could be lost over time.
New Mexico is investigating allegations of illegal activity connected to Zorro Ranch, a property Epstein owned near Santa Fe.
The Justice Department said it has responded to requests from the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office and remains willing to assist with the state’s investigation.
The investigation was reopened earlier this year after the release of additional Epstein-related files, including an unverified allegation involving the ranch. Authorities have not confirmed those claims.
Some Epstein survivors have previously said Zorro Ranch was among the locations where they were sexually abused.
The handling of Epstein-related documents has faced criticism from lawmakers over extensive redactions. The Justice Department’s internal watchdog is reviewing the process used to redact the files.
Torrez says his office has made multiple attempts to obtain additional records from the DOJ and believes the delays have gone on for more than 130 days.
New Mexico authorities searched Zorro Ranch in March as part of the ongoing investigation.
