Roommate Says Charlie Kirk’s Accused Killer Expressed Regret After Shooting
The former roommate of Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, testified that Robinson expressed regret the day after the fatal shooting.
During a court hearing in Utah, Lance Twiggs told prosecutors in a recorded interview that Robinson became emotional and said he wished he had not carried out the shooting.
Twiggs testified that Robinson later said he would speak with his parents or turn himself in. Officials said Robinson surrendered to police later that day.
Robinson, 23, faces charges including aggravated murder and six additional counts connected to Kirk’s death. He has not entered pleas.
Prosecutors are presenting evidence during a preliminary hearing to show there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
Kirk, 31, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in September while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.
Prosecutors say text messages between Robinson and Twiggs indicate Robinson admitted responsibility for the shooting. The roommate was granted limited immunity in exchange for his recorded statement.
During testimony, prosecutors displayed messages they say show Robinson acknowledging involvement in the killing. Investigators also presented evidence involving the alleged murder weapon and ammunition.
Twiggs told investigators he and Robinson had not regularly discussed politics and said he did not recall Robinson frequently mentioning Kirk.
The hearing continues as attorneys debate what evidence and portions of testimony can be made public.
