Dream Job: Company wants to pay you to eat pizza, promote product

Imagine having $300—or, say, ONE THOUSAND dollars—for each day you eat pizza. This could be your reality.

Ooni, an award-winning portable pizza oven company, is hiring pizza taste testers, who will literally be eating pizza like it’s their job. The pizza taste tester roles will be “a unique mix of recipe development, product testing and brand ambassadorship—pizza, pizza, and more pizza!” according to the website.

To make the position even more dreamy, the taste testers will work from home. Ooni will send the chosen testers an Ooni pizza oven, designed for cooking outdoors. All ingredients for making the pizza will be covered by the company (and not taken out of your daily rate).

As a pizza taste tester, you’ll have a slew of fun, pizza-related responsibilities. You’ll help Ooni develop and test recipes and test and provide feedback on new products. It’s 2018, so naturally you’ll be sharing your experiences via social media and at live events.

The most important qualification for the position is “an enthusiasm for cooking and sharing food with your nearest and dearest,” Ooni’s website states. If you have experience making pizza dough and cooking pizza, that’s definitely a “huge advantage,” though!

The part-time, freelance position has a base day rate of $300, appropriate “for someone who is a passionate home cook who hasn’t worked professionally and who understands how to make and stretch their own dough,” according to Darina Garland, Ooni’s co-founder.

Beyond that, she says, they’d be interested in increasing the day rate up to $1000 “for really standout candidates who have added skill sets.” Such skill sets may include someone “who’s great at making pizza as well as filming their own high-quality content,” or someone who has the pizza-cooking experience and has also worked at cooking demonstrations for large crowds.

“We feel that keeping the day rate open to a range of rates will ensure that we’ll attract the full breadth of people who cook their own pizza at home, from novices through to professional pizzaioli,” Garland says. “What we fundamentally care about is seeing people’s passion for pizza!”

Ooni notes that the day rate is based on a 9-5 workday with a lunch break. At minimum, Ooni would like taste testers to work two days a month.

Ready to apply? Send Ooni a video (maximum one minute in length, and no larger than 20MB) explaining why you would be great for the role and showing your “epic pizza skills” to jobs@ooni.com. You can apply until Sunday, Oct. 14, and Ooni will contact shortlisted applicants thereafter.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities. With El Niño conditions expected to bring periods of heavy rain, officials say preparing now could help protect homes and communities from the aftermath of wildfire. The message from firefighters: preparation can save lives.
