Weekend Movie Guide: Bride Hard, Elio, and 28 Years Later Hit Theaters
In this week’s Agua Caliente Entertainment Report, brought to you by Agua Caliente Casinos, Manny the Movie Guy previews three buzzworthy films arriving in theaters.
First up is Bride Hard, an action comedy that reunites Pitch Perfect stars Rebel Wilson and Palm Springs local Anna Camp. Camp plays a bride, while Wilson stars as her best friend—and a secret Secret Service agent. Director Simon West (Con Air) brings the action, and Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph shines in a strong supporting role. Wilson even broke her nose during filming, proving the stunts were no joke. Manny calls it “a joyful mix between Bridesmaids and Die Hard,” awarding it 3 out of 4 “Say I Do” kisses.
Next is Elio, the latest from Disney and Pixar. This animated sci-fi adventure follows a boy more at ease with aliens than his fellow humans. Visually stunning and emotionally thoughtful, Elio explores themes of grief, connection, and belonging. While the plot may feel familiar, kids will be swept away by the vibrant visuals and heartfelt moments. Manny gives Elio 3.5 out of 4 intergalactic ambassador kisses.
Finally, 28 Years Later marks the return of Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland, who kicked off the franchise with 28 Days Later. The new installment centers on a young survivor named Spike, portrayed by Alfie Williams, as the rage virus resurfaces. With a pulsing soundtrack by Young Fathers and smart, stylish storytelling, Manny praises it as “smart, silly, and creepy,” earning it 3.5 out of 4 infected undead kisses.
