It Ends With a Settlement: Blake Lively and Wayfarer Studios Resolve Bitter Legal Dispute Ahead of Trial
NEW YORK, NY — The intense legal saga surrounding the production of the 2024 film "It Ends With Us" has officially reached its conclusion. Attorneys for actress Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, announced a settlement on Monday, May 4, 2026, effectively canceling a high-profile trial that was slated to begin in just two weeks.
The litigation began in late 2024 when Lively filed a complaint alleging that Baldoni sexually harassed her during filming and later orchestrated a retaliatory smear campaign to damage her reputation. Baldoni consistently denied all allegations, eventually filing a countersuit against Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, which was dismissed by a federal judge in 2025.
A Narrowed Case
The path to settlement was paved by a significant ruling last month. In April 2026, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman threw out 10 of the 13 claims in Lively’s lawsuit. The dismissed claims included the primary allegations of sexual harassment and defamation, with the judge citing legal technicalities regarding Lively's status as an independent contractor rather than a direct employee.
The remaining three claims set for the May 18 trial—retaliation, aiding and abetting retaliation, and breach of contract—were directed at Wayfarer Studios and associated PR firms rather than Baldoni personally.
The Joint Statement
While the specific financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, both parties released a joint statement Monday afternoon expressing a desire for closure.
"We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard," the statement read. "We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online."
The statement also reiterated the parties’ pride in the final film and its mission to raise awareness for survivors of domestic violence.
Looking Ahead
With the settlement now finalized, the Hollywood community is watching to see how both stars navigate their post-litigation careers. For Lively and Baldoni, the agreement marks the end of a chapter that frequently overshadowed the movie’s box office success and its message of trauma and healing.
