Ed Sheeran Surprises Detroit Karaoke Bar With Impromptu Duet Ahead of Ford Field Concert

Ed Sheeran gave a handful of karaoke fans in Detroit an unexpected surprise when he stepped up to the microphone for an impromptu duet at a local karaoke bar.
Sheeran was at Hiroki-San, a restaurant in Detroit's Book Tower, when Kevin Reddy, a regular at the neighboring karaoke bar Sakazuki, spotted him and struck up a conversation.
Reddy had already queued up Sheeran's hit song “Thinking Out Loud” for karaoke. Near the end of their conversation, Reddy invited Sheeran to perform it with him.
“And so he immediately was game and we walked up here,” Reddy said.
It was close to closing time, with only about six or seven people still at the bar.
Naomi Scott, general manager of Sakazuki and Hiroki-San, said employees were stunned when Sheeran actually took the microphone.
“They just were talking about what if he came up and he did his song for karaoke, and then little did they know, you know, he did,” Scott said.
Tyler Hedley was among those in the bar and captured the performance on video. The clip later received tens of thousands of likes on TikTok.
Hedley said he is a longtime Sheeran fan and was thrilled to see the singer performing just feet away.
Reddy said the experience was especially memorable because Sheeran took time to talk with the group and appeared comfortable joining the casual karaoke night.
“I mean, you could see with the video, it was just an amazing, amazing time,” Reddy said.
Sheeran is scheduled to return to Detroit next Saturday for a concert at Ford Field. After the surprise karaoke appearance, staff at Sakazuki are hoping the singer makes another visit — and perhaps performs an encore.
