Happy Friday, Palm Springs! Before the weekend takes over, weatherman Jerry Steffen is here to remind you that today is packed with holidays you probably didn't see coming.
First up, it's National Cheese Ball Day, and yes, that means exactly what you think, and also something entirely different, and possibly a third thing depending on who you ask around the studio. Whether you're a fan of the classic orange puffed snacks, a big soft spreadable cheese with crackers, or just someone with a fun nickname, today is your day to celebrate.
Next, today is National Ellis Island Family History Day, a moment to explore your roots, honor immigrants, and maybe finally dig into that family tree you've been putting off. You might be surprised what you find.
And then there's the wildcard: National Blah Blah Blah Day. It's a real holiday, it's today, and Jerry being Jerry, he turned it into two genuinely tricky pop quiz questions that had the whole studio second-guessing themselves.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities. With El Niño conditions expected to bring periods of heavy rain, officials say preparing now could help protect homes and communities from the aftermath of wildfire.
