May the 4th Be With You, and So Will These Wild Holidays You Never Knew Existed
Monday, May 4th, 2026, is not just a day for lightsabers and Jedi greetings. Weatherman Jerry Steffen took a break from the forecast to walk us through some of the most surprising, fascinating, and downright delightful holidays hiding on today's calendar, and he brought a two-question orange-themed pop quiz along for the ride.
It is National Weather Observers Day, a salute to the amateur and professional volunteers who monitor and report weather conditions across the country. Here in the Coachella Valley, there are only two government-owned weather reporting stations. Everything else is publicly owned, and that community data is essential to putting together the forecast you see every morning. Pretty incredible when you think about it.
It is also National Dave Brubeck Day, and the timing could not be more perfect. The jazz legend's all-time classic "Take Five" was recorded in 5/4 time, and today's date is, well, 5/4. That is not a coincidence, that is a holiday doing its job correctly.
Of course, the whole world knows it is International Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you, always.
And rounding out the morning? National Orange Juice Day, which just so happens to tie perfectly into today's pop quiz theme.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
