Memorial Day Monday brings not one but a handful of quirky holidays worth celebrating, and weatherman Jerry Steffen is back with the Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz to mark the occasion.
Today is National Wine Day, the one day a year dedicated to everything from red and white to rosé, sparkling, and fortified. For some, of course, it might as well be every day. Whether you're a devoted Riesling fan or just along for the ride, today is your excuse to pour a glass.
It's also National Geek Pride Day, a celebration of the passionately enthusiastic, whether that enthusiasm is directed toward gaming, comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, or pop culture. Geeks unite, and maybe even make it to a convention.
Rounding out today's calendar is National Tap Dance Day, honoring one of the most iconic figures in American tap history, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, born on this date in 1878.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities. With El Niño conditions expected to bring periods of heavy rain, officials say preparing now could help protect homes and communities from the aftermath of wildfire.
