Asteroids, Selfies and Friendster, Tuesday's Hashtag Holiday Calendar Has It All
Weatherman Jerry Steffen brought another round of Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz to the Coachella Valley this morning, and Tuesday's lineup was a mash up of nostalgia, fashion and outer space.
The day kicked off with a nod to Social Media Day, which marks the anniversary of Friendster's launch back in 2002, a full year before Myspace and two years before Facebook came along. It was a fun reminder of just how far social media has come since those early days.
Next up was National Outfit of the Day Day, a holiday created by former Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder as a way to celebrate self expression through personal style. It's the perfect excuse to share what you're wearing and have a little fun with your wardrobe.
But the real star of the show was International Asteroid Day. The United Nations designated this day to raise awareness about the hazards of asteroid impacts, and the date isn't random. On June 30, 1908, a massive meteor blast over East Siberia flattened 830 square miles of land.
With asteroids as the theme, Jerry put together two out of this world quiz questions for viewers to test their knowledge on.
1) Asteroids are rocky or metallic bodies that orbit the Sun, mainly in the main asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. When their orbits get disturbed, they can take on a new designation. What do you call an asteroid that survives its fiery trip through Earth's atmosphere and lands on the ground?
A) A meteor
B) A meteorite
C) A meteoroid
2) Meteor Crater, also known as Barringer Crater, measures about 3,900 feet in diameter and 560 feet deep, with a rim that rises above the surrounding plains. The 50,000 year old impact site is considered the best preserved meteorite crater on Earth. In which U.S. state will you find it?

B) Alaska
C) Arizona

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities. With El Niño conditions expected to bring periods of heavy rain, officials say preparing now could help protect homes and communities from the aftermath of wildfire.
