Mirror, Mirror, on the Calendar: Jerry Steffen's Friday Pop Quiz Has the Whole Newsroom Guessing
Friday, January 3rd came loaded with strange and wonderful holidays, and Jerry Steffen was ready to break them all down on this week's Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz, brought to you by One Coachella Valley.
First up was American Redneck Day, a celebration of rural heritage and the good old boy lifestyle. Jerry suggested honoring it properly, with a pickup truck, a barbecue, some fishing, and plenty of country music playing in the background.
Next came Comic Sans Day, dedicated to what is often called the most hated font in the world. Jerry shared a surprising bit of trivia though, noting that Comic Sans is actually considered highly legible for people with dyslexia, since its irregular letter shapes make it easier to tell similar characters apart, like a B and a D.
Rounding out the calendar was National Compliment Your Mirror Day, all about stepping in front of the mirror and giving yourself a little self esteem boost. Jerry leaned into the spirit of the day, joking that he has never met a mirror he didn't like, and giving a nod to the classic Saturday Night Live character Fernando, known for telling everyone they look marvelous.
With mirrors as the theme of the day, Jerry rolled out two pop quiz questions for the newsroom, and viewers at home are invited to test their own knowledge before watching how the crew did.
1) Justin Timberlake's song "Mirrors" became a worldwide hit in 2013 and hit number one in the US. Timberlake said the song was dedicated to his grandparents and their lasting love, but that he wrote it thinking of his then future wife, Jessica. Which Jessica was it?

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities. With El Niño conditions expected to bring periods of heavy rain, officials say preparing now could help protect homes and communities from the aftermath of wildfire.
