Thanksgiving Dinner Prices Drop to Lowest in Years

This year’s Thanksgiving dinner is more affordable than it has been in years, according to a report by the American Farm Bureau Federation. The organization estimates that the cost of a classic holiday feast for 10 people will average $58.08 in 2024. That’s a 5% drop from last year’s $61.17 and marks the lowest cost since 2021. When adjusted for inflation, the price decrease becomes even more significant. The report highlights that, when measured against 1984 purchasing power, this year’s Thanksgiving meal is the least expensive in the survey’s 39-year history. The study looked at the cost of traditional items including turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, vegetables, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. While turkey prices remain the centerpiece, they have stabilized this year after fluctuating during the pandemic and supply chain challenges. The drop in prices comes as a relief to consumers navigating higher costs for other goods and services. Despite inflation pressures, Thanksgiving provides a moment to celebrate with loved ones without breaking the bank. American Farm Bureau Federation economists attribute the decline to improved agricultural yields and stabilized supply chains, which have helped keep grocery prices in check. For those hosting this year, the report serves as a welcome reminder that a festive holiday doesn’t have to come at a high price. Whether cooking at home or dining out, 2024 offers a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving at a reasonable cost.
