SCE Warns of Potential Power Outage
Southern California Edison (SCE) is warning residents about the high potential for extended power outages due to high winds expected in the area. With strong winds forecasted, SCE may take the precautionary step of shutting off power in certain areas to prevent wildfires. In the past, even minor sparks caused by power lines in windy conditions have led to devastating wildfires, making these proactive outages a safety measure to prevent further damage.
This year, the utility company has been issuing warnings to residents, advising them to prepare for the possibility of power being turned off for an extended period. Unlike typical brownouts or brief outages, these planned power shutoffs could last longer, depending on wind severity. SCE’s move to preemptively shut off power is driven by a strong commitment to safety, as sparks from power lines in windy conditions have the potential to spark catastrophic fires.
Residents in affected areas are encouraged to make sure they have emergency kits, backup power systems, and alternative lighting ready. It’s crucial to have a plan in place for food, water, and medical needs, especially if the outage is prolonged. A high-speed police chase in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, came to a dramatic end when the vehicle plunged into Lake Como. Dashcam video released by police shows the pursuit before the car crashes into the water. Four people inside the vehicle were pulled from the lake with no serious injuries reported.
