PSUSD Seeks Community Input on New Cell Phone Policy for Schools
The Palm Springs Unified School District (PSUSD) is reaching out to families and staff for input on a new cell phone policy required by state law. The law, set to take effect in July 2026, aims to address cell phone usage in schools and its impact on students’ learning environments.
PSUSD is inviting the community to participate in an online survey to help shape how the policy will be implemented. The district wants to ensure the rules are practical and effective, balancing the benefits of technology with minimizing distractions in the classroom.
“Feedback from families and staff is vital as we prepare for this change,” a district spokesperson said. “We want to hear from those who are directly affected to create a policy that works for everyone.”
The survey is available online until January 24th, giving participants an opportunity to voice their opinions on how best to limit cell phone use in schools. The district encourages all families and staff to take part in the decision-making process.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
