Ex-Riverside Deputy on Probation After Pleading Guilty to Fentanyl Trafficking
A former Riverside County sheriff’s deputy is out on probation after pleading guilty to felony drug trafficking charges. Jorge Alberto Osagora Rocha, 26, of Banning, admitted to transporting over 100 pounds of fentanyl on the I-10 freeway, a case that has raised serious concerns about law enforcement corruption and the growing fentanyl crisis.
Rocha entered his guilty plea last week, acknowledging his role in the transportation of controlled substances, along with other related felonies. The plea deal was made directly to the judge, bypassing input or objection from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Details on Rocha’s probation terms have not been publicly disclosed.
The case highlights the ongoing issue of fentanyl trafficking, which has seen a sharp rise in recent years, contributing to a devastating increase in overdose deaths across the country. Law enforcement officials have repeatedly warned about the dangers of fentanyl, which is often mixed with other drugs and can be fatal in small doses.
