Local Hospitals See Spike in Flu Cases as Season Peaks
Local Coachella Valley hospitals are experiencing a sharp rise in cases of Influenza Type A and B, leading medical professionals to issue urgent warnings for the public to stay prepared. According to Dr. David Romness the emergency medicine physician at Eisenhower Hospital, certain groups are more susceptible to severe complications from the flu like the elderly and children. These vulnerable populations face higher risks of severe illness, including fever, coughing, and body aches—common symptoms of influenza.
The Chief of Paediatrics for the Riverside area, Dr. Bradely Jacoby had talked about how despite the rising number of flu cases, the public should still caution that flu season has not yet reached its peak, and experts encourage everyone to get the flu shot to protect themselves and their community. And one of the challenges in combating the virus is that some individuals can carry the virus without showing any symptoms, making it harder to identify and isolate infected individuals. This asymptomatic spread emphasizes the importance of regular hand washing and other preventative measures.
And for those concerned about the flu vaccine's needle, there is an alternative: a nasal spray version of the vaccine, which can be just as effective, especially for those who are afraid of injections.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away.
