Petition to Ban Big Rigs on Highway 74 Gains Momentum; Tow Truck Scam Uncovered in Inland Empire

Concerns over safety on Highway 74 continue to grow as more residents sign a petition to ban big rig trucks. Just days ago, a car crashed into the guardrail along the dangerous stretch of road. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Caltrans crews acted swiftly, repairing the guardrail within 24 hours. However, residents argue that fast fixes don’t solve the ongoing issues: too many potholes and oversized trucks making the route hazardous.

In a separate safety concern, the Inland Empire Automobile Insurance Fraud Task Force charged 16 individuals in a tow truck scam that illegally netted nearly $217,000 through fraudulent insurance claims. Scammers targeted accident victims by towing vehicles without consent and demanding steep fees.

Red flags to watch for:
🚫 Tow trucks arriving unsolicited shortly after an accident
🚫 Drivers pressuring victims to use a specific body shop
🚫 Requests for signatures without clear explanation
🚫 Tow drivers arranging ride shares unexpectedly

Safety tip: Always verify a tow truck’s legitimacy with your insurer or wait for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to confirm dispatch. Never sign documents unless you’re certain of the tow company’s credentials.

Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
