Man Arrested For Beating A Canada Goose
A disturbing case of animal cruelty unfolded last week at Chaparral Country Club in Palm Desert, where a Canada goose was allegedly beaten and thrown into a dumpster. The incident led to the goose's euthanasia and has sparked an investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Law enforcement sources confirmed that the suspect, identified as Michael McCutcheon, was arrested on animal cruelty charges and booked into custody.
However, McCutcheon was later released after posting bail. The arrest followed a detailed investigation into the event, which was initially reported by Fred Roggin on Friday. The Canada Goose is a protected species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The discovery of the goose was made possible thanks to the country club’s 24-hour surveillance cameras, which provided law enforcement with valuable footage of the incident.
According to bird experts the Canada goose is an important part of the wetlands ecology, with experts stressing the critical role these birds play in maintaining natural habitats along their migratory routes. The protection of these birds is enshrined in both U.S. and Canada law, designed to prevent overhunting, habitat loss, and other threats to their population.
