Green Room Theatre Company Celebrates Its 16th Season
The Green Room Theatre Company is marking its 16th season with a bold and moving production of Black Butterfly, Jaguar Girl, Piñata Woman, and Other Superhero Girls Like Me. This award-winning play, which opened Friday night, continues to captivate audiences with its emotional depth and powerful storytelling. Performances are being held in Indio and Palm Desert, running through April 6.
Co-directed by David Catanzarite and Rocio Munoz, Black Butterfly brings to life the voices of young girls growing up in the urban neighborhoods of East Los Angeles. Through poetry, personal narratives, and vibrant theatrical expression, the play explores themes of cultural identity, resilience, and the power of young women finding their voices. Its stories highlight the struggles and triumphs of girls navigating societal expectations while embracing their heritage and dreams.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Firefighters also responded to a palm tree fire in Chino Canyon that officials say was caused by an apparent lightning strike. Estevan Figueroa of King’s Club Barbershop is giving back across the Coachella Valley — one haircut at a time.
