College of Desert Approves Undocumented Student Support
College of the Desert has recently approved new resolutions to bolster support for undocumented students, ensuring they receive the resources and opportunities needed to thrive academically and personally. This move comes as part of the college's ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly for students facing barriers to higher education. The resolutions are designed to provide financial aid, academic counseling, legal assistance, and mental health support specifically tailored to the needs of undocumented individuals. College officials emphasized that these initiatives are a response to the growing number of undocumented students who are seeking higher education but struggle with various challenges.
A representative from the college, explained that these new measures will make it easier for undocumented students to access the support systems they require to succeed. One key component is the establishment of a scholarship fund to assist undocumented students with tuition and other educational expenses. Additionally, the college will offer workshops and informational sessions to help students understand their rights and available resources.
The college has also partnered with local advocacy groups to offer legal assistance to students navigating immigration-related issues. Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer.
