Senior Inspiration Awards Honor Community Volunteers in Indio
The annual Senior Inspiration Awards took place yesterday at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, celebrating senior citizens who make a lasting impact through volunteer work and civic engagement.
The event, a long-standing tradition in the Coachella Valley, honors older adults who go above and beyond to serve their communities — often inspiring others to do the same.
“It encourages me to find other ways to help people,” said one honoree. “And it’s always more fun when you bring a friend along to do something you enjoy.”
To qualify for the award, recipients must either live in or volunteer for the city that nominates them and demonstrate a longstanding commitment to community involvement.
Each city in the Coachella Valley selects its own nominee, making the event a truly regional celebration of service, dedication, and inspiration.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. His career spanned more than seven decades, proving that the spotlight never truly left him. ❤️ Rest in peace, James “Gypsy” Haake.
