Security Tightens Ahead of Three Festival Weekends in Indio as Thousands Arrive
As the Coachella Valley gears up for three consecutive weekends of music, art, and massive crowds, security is already in full force. With over 100,000 fans expected on the festival grounds each weekend, both law enforcement and attendees are preparing for a safe experience.
NBC Palm Springs’ Tiani Jadling reports that in addition to the star-studded performances, large-scale art, and fan experiences, a critical part of the festival’s success lies behind the scenes—with a strong presence of security teams ensuring everything runs smoothly.
For festivalgoers like Marissa Pareto and her group, these weekends are about unforgettable music moments. But with growing crowds, safety is top of mind. “You’re not just keeping an eye on your group—you’re watching everyone around you,” she said.
Some fans are even bringing their own security solutions. A group from Orange County shared their method of securing phones with carabiner chains clipped to their bodies to prevent theft.
At the Ralphs parking lot off Jefferson Street—an unofficial staging area for campers—festival veteran Eric Ortiz is back for another year. “It’s all about the buddy system,” he said. “We look out for each other, especially in big crowds.”
One of his fellow travelers came prepared with a DIY first aid kit, including Band-Aids, Neosporin, gloves, and lotions to help with minor issues that may arise.
On the official side, the Indio Police Department will be out in force with a zero tolerance policy, and Allied Universal will provide nearly 1,000 uniformed guards stationed 24/7 inside the gates. Law enforcement confirms that all entrances will feature screening stations.
“It’s about the fans and the fan experience,” said one security official. “The more aware and prepared fans are, the safer the environment is for everyone.”
The message from authorities and attendees alike: enjoy the festival, but stay alert, stay prepared, and look out for one another.
