Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards Raise $2.3 Million for DAP Health at Star-Studded Gala
The 31st annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards lit up the Palm Springs Convention Center with a dazzling display of community spirit, generosity, and support for DAP Health, raising $2.3 million for the second consecutive year.
The event—presented by Desert Care Network—is the nonprofit’s largest fundraiser of the year, and it continues to play a critical role in supporting health equity and life-saving care across the Coachella Valley.
Guests were treated to a night of elegance and impact, as local leaders, celebrities, and supporters came together to celebrate DAP Health’s mission and expand its ability to serve the community’s most vulnerable.
“From the incredible donors to the passionate team behind the scenes, this was truly a night to remember,” said event organizers. “It was filled with heart, hope, and overwhelming generosity.”
The funds raised will help DAP Health continue its essential services, including HIV care, primary healthcare, behavioral health, and housing support for underserved populations in the region.
The Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards have long been a cornerstone of community giving in Palm Springs, honoring both those who champion health equity and those who directly benefit from its promise.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Hawk, who has died at 94. Hawk began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Hawk was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
