Luxury Package Stolen in Uber related incident
Another theft has been reported in the Coachella Valley, this time at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. The victim, Sarah Barnes, says she had a luxury package as well as over 30 high-end items, including a $3,000 Bottega Veneta Cassette bag delivered via Uber. Although marked as delivered, the package never arrived. The delivery was arranged through ride share system, but what happened next raised several red flags. The app listed a grey Kia Niro as the delivery vehicle. Instead, a grey Ford Explorer arrived, carrying a male driver and a blonde female passenger not linked to the account. Barnes immediately sensed something was wrong. She says the package was never handed over and the driver left quickly. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is now investigating the incident. Uber has also launched its own internal investigation. The company has not yet released details about the driver or the delivery. Barnes is hoping that the Lyft sharing service can give answers as the loss totals over 5 thousand dollars when added together.
