Indio, Goldenvoice Ease Coachella Traffic Woes
Coachella Weekend 2 is in full swing with tens of thousands flooding the Coachella Valley.
NBC Palm Springs' Brett Rosen was live from Indio at Center Stage.
Despite some wind, spirits remain high as Friday night kicked off.
Rosen caught up with the Mayor of Indio to talk about traffic improvements.
The mayor explained that over 100,000 people pack into a one-square-mile area.
Last weekend’s gridlock was due to a nonstop stream of incoming vehicles.
Without the usual traffic lull, roads got backed up quickly.
Safety checks also slowed down the process, affecting residents nearby.
In response, Indio and Goldenvoice collaborated on a traffic fix.
They added 12 new car entry stalls at Madison and 50th.
Campers say this weekend’s entry was much smoother and faster.
Officials now feel ready as Stagecoach approaches next weekend.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. His career spanned more than seven decades, proving that the spotlight never truly left him. ❤️ Rest in peace, James “Gypsy” Haake.
