Explosion Levels Indiana Home, Injures Multiple Residents and Rattles Neighborhood
A powerful explosion rocked a quiet Indiana neighborhood, leveling one home and severely damaging another. The blast, which sent multiple people to the hospital, left a trail of destruction and stunned neighbors who described the terrifying moment their homes shook.
James Clay, who lives next door, said the explosion was strong enough to shatter his windows and shake his entire house.
“I don't think the lady’s going to make it,” he said. “The other guy got blown off the porch. I mean, they got blown out of the house.”
Clay was among the first to dial 911. Another neighbor described seeing flames engulf the side of the home as he rushed outside.
“I saw a couple people out here hurt. Flames were all over the side of the home and racing upwards,” he said, pointing to what remained of the residence. “I saw the flames coming out from the side, near where the stove was.”
A man and woman who lived in the house that exploded were rushed to the hospital. But the blast also damaged the neighboring home, where a mother and her two young children were inside at the time.
“A neighbor ran over and grabbed the lady and her two little kids,” said one resident. “We even tried to save their cats.”
That mother and her children were also hospitalized. Neighbors hope they only suffered from smoke inhalation.
Authorities evacuated the area immediately after the explosion and worked to secure the scene. Firefighters say their investigation is ongoing in coordination with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
“It shook my house so hard, I was expecting a truck in my living room,” said one nearby resident. “That’s what I really thought was going on.”
Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion. Residents are just hoping it never happens again.
