Ms. Dee’s Boutique Expands to Help Locals in Need with Dignity and Hope

A new clothing boutique is making a big difference in the lives of Coachella Valley residents working to rebuild their lives.

Ms. Dee’s Boutique has opened its second location—this time inside DAP Health’s Sunrise Campus in Palm Springs. The shop is part of a broader initiative by DAP Health called “clothing to clinics,” aimed at offering hope, dignity, and second chances to people in need of essential items.

For years, DAP Health has distributed vouchers to individuals experiencing homelessness or living in poverty. These vouchers can be used at all Revival stores. But transportation remains a barrier for many. “When I felt all alone and didn’t even have clean clothes to wear, the folks at DAP—and specifically Dee—came to my rescue,” said client John Thomas.

That “Dee” is Dee Colmett, DAP Health’s front desk coordinator and the heart behind Ms. Dee’s Boutique. She helped launch the first boutique inside the Stonewall Clinic in Cathedral City and now celebrates the expansion to the Sunrise Campus. The boutique allows clients to shop for what they need—just like at any other store—using their vouchers without requiring a caseworker’s assistance.

“We want to lift people up, sometimes instantly, by giving them something as simple as a clean shirt or skirt,” said Colmett. “It boosts morale and helps people re-enter society with dignity.”

The boutiques are stocked primarily through donations from Revival stores and DAP Health employees. Community members can donate clothing at both DAP Health locations and Revival stores.

“It’s because of the heartfelt connection with people like Dee that I was able to get back on my feet,” said Thomas.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
