Celebrating Bitcoin Pizza Day
What began as a quirky transaction involving two pizzas and a few lines of computer code is now a global celebration: Bitcoin Pizza Day. And this year, Stuft Pizza Bar and Grill at The Shops at Palm Desert, held a special event to mark the 15th anniversary of the first real-world purchase made with Bitcoin.
“Back in 2010, someone in Florida bought two pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoin,” said crypto expert Jimi Fitz. “That was about $42 at the time. Today, that Bitcoin would be worth over $1 billion.”
Bitcoin Pizza Day celebrates the moment Bitcoin stepped out of the digital shadows and into everyday life. Now, the once-obscure digital currency is at the forefront of financial innovation, with growing attention from Wall Street, Capitol Hill, and global investors.
“Bitcoin is the intersection of technology and finance,” Fitz explained. “We’re seeing everything move from analog to digital, and cryptocurrency is playing a major role in transforming the global financial system.”
The Stuft Pizza Bar and Grill celebration included a giveaway of two general admission tickets—each worth $500—to the Bitcoin Conference in Las Vegas, which kicks off next week. With an expected turnout of 30,000 attendees, the conference will feature major names including Vice President J.D. Vance, Bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor, and Senator Cynthia Lummis, who is pushing a groundbreaking bill to allow the U.S. Treasury to purchase Bitcoin as part of its financial reserves.
“The conference is where the brightest minds in crypto come together,” Fitz said. “It’s an opportunity to learn, connect, and be part of the future of finance.”
As the digital age marches on, events like Bitcoin Pizza Day remind us how far the cryptocurrency world has come—and hint at how far it still has to go. For more information tune into NBC Palm Springs.
