Palm Springs Honors Six LGBTQIA+ Business Leaders with "Spirit of Palm Springs" Awards

Yesterday, the vibrant spirit of Palm Springs was celebrated at a special Pride Month ceremony held at Palm Springs City Hall on East Tahquitz Canyon Way. Six distinguished LGBTQIA+ business leaders were honored with the prestigious "Spirit of Palm Springs Award," recognizing their profound impact on the city's unique identity.

City officials lauded the honorees as embodying the "best of Palm Springs' business community," underscoring the city's commitment to fostering an environment of entrepreneurship, creativity, and inclusion. The ceremony served as a testament to the collaborative ethos prevalent in the local business landscape. As one attendee remarked, it's about "supporting each other" and building up businesses collectively, rather than focusing on competition.

Among the celebrated individuals was a recipient who expressed a deep sense of privilege in receiving the award, noting that multiple "Spirit Awards" indicate a tangible contribution recognized by the community. This honoree specifically highlighted their primary focus on providing women, especially artists, with a crucial platform for development, learning, and earning a living. Their dedication reflects the diverse ways in which these leaders are enriching the economic and cultural fabric of Palm Springs.

The six honorees recognized were:

  • Jennifer Seymour (Hunters Palm Springs) - for innovative hospitality leadership and community engagement.

  • Bill Sanderson (Townie Bagels) - for culinary entrepreneurship and neighborhood business development.

  • Tony Marchese (Trio Restaurant) - for restaurant excellence and commitment to local dining culture.

  • Lucy DeBardelaben (The Palm Springs Women's Jazz and Blues Association) - for artistic leadership and cultural community building.

  • Shann Carr (A Lesbian Concierge In The Desert) - for unique service innovation and LGBTQIA+ tourism advocacy.

  • Tai Spendley (Rooster and the Pig) - for culinary excellence and farm-to-table business leadership.

This event was one of many celebrations taking place across the Coachella Valley throughout June, recognizing Pride Month and the invaluable contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community. The "Spirit of Palm Springs Award" not only acknowledges individual achievements but also reaffirms Palm Springs' reputation as a welcoming and thriving destination for diverse talent and businesses.
