Desert Hot Springs Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run
A Desert Hot Springs man is under arrest, accused of fleeing the scene after hitting a bicyclist with his car.
Police say 22-year-old Miguel Angel Romero Vallejo struck a man riding his bike in Cathedral City.
It happened just after 2:40 p.m. Sunday on Date Palm Drive, north of Perez Road.
Several 911 callers reported the crash.
When officers arrived, they found the bicyclist injured on the roadway.
The victim, a Cathedral City man, was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center.
Police say he suffered multiple injuries but is in stable condition.
According to investigators, the victim was riding in the bike lane when he was hit from behind.
They say the driver briefly stopped but then ran off.
Officers located Vallejo walking about a mile away roughly 10 minutes later.
He was booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio with bail set at $25,000.
Cathedral City police are still asking anyone with information to come forward.
