Desert Rose Thrift Shop Reopens in Desert Hot Springs, Expands Community Support

Desert Rose Thrift Shop in Desert Hot Springs officially reopened this week with more space, expanded inventory, and a renewed focus on supporting the local community.

The store, which operates in coordination with the City of Desert Hot Springs Senior Center, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark its relaunch. While it wasn’t a full remodel, visitors will now find a more spacious layout, a wider variety of items, and expanded discounts—including special deals for students.

The proceeds from Desert Rose Thrift Store help fund a range of programs benefiting local seniors, including free food distributions, housing assistance, and other essential resources.

“This is just us relaunching this and giving the community awareness that there are fresh shores here and that the proceeds go to good causes,” said a city representative at the event.

A key part of the store’s operation is its team of dedicated volunteers. Among them is Emma Guerrero, who has been volunteering for two years and now helps run the store while bringing her personal touch to displays and merchandise arrangements.

“I like to put colors on each place. I take care of myself a lot, and I match my clothes—and I put that into the store,” Guerrero said, sharing her passion for styling the shop’s items.

The Desert Rose Thrift Store first began as part of a Mizell Senior Center initiative. When the City of Desert Hot Springs resumed direct management of the senior center’s programs, the store became city-run as well.

“There’s programming all the time happening here at our senior center based on the needs of our seniors in our community,” officials said.

In addition to clothing and household items, the store now carries toys and family-focused products, broadening its appeal to all ages.

Desert Rose Thrift Shop is open Monday through Friday, starting at 8:30 a.m., and invites the community to shop, donate, or volunteer. The shop is located in the back parking lot of the Desert Hot Springs Senior Center at 11777 West Drive.
