California Offers Food Assistance to Nearby Wildfire Victims

California is providing emergency food assistance to residents affected by four major wildfires that swept through the Temecula, Banning, and Aguanga areas in late June and early July.

The Mindy, Wolf, Mandalay, and Juniper fires, which began on June 29 and 30, have left many families without food due to evacuations and power outages. CalFresh customers who lost food purchased with their benefits during these fires may qualify for replacement benefits.

State officials estimate that more than 26,000 CalFresh households in Riverside County received a combined $5.3 million in benefits during the period when these fires occurred. Many of these families are now eligible for replacement support.

Affected households must report their food loss by Monday, July 28 to receive help. CalFresh customers can request replacement benefits by visiting BenefitsCal.com, calling 1-877-410-8827, or visiting their nearest Self-Sufficiency office.

The assistance comes as officials urge residents to take all necessary precautions during what has already been an active fire season in Riverside County. CalFresh, California's largest food assistance program, helps eligible households purchase groceries at supermarkets, farmers markets, and online retailers.

Residents not currently enrolled in CalFresh who need food assistance are encouraged to apply online, by phone, or in person. Office locations are available at rivcodpss.org/office-locations.
