Palm Springs Approves Bridge Design Near Oswit Canyon After Safety Concerns
The Palm Springs City Council has approved plans to move forward with a long-delayed infrastructure project aimed at improving safety and access in the southern part of the city.
At its latest meeting, the council unanimously voted to accept the design for a low-water crossing bridge on South Palm Canyon Drive, near the Oswit Canyon Nature Preserve. The project, intended to allow safer passage during storms and floods, has been delayed several times due to environmental concerns in the surrounding area.
However, recent pressure from residents living south of the preserve prompted renewed urgency. Many expressed frustration over being potentially cut off from the rest of the city during emergencies due to the current low-water crossing being impassable during floods.
The newly approved design aims to strike a balance between environmental protection and public safety. Construction timelines and budget details have not yet been finalized but are expected to follow in future council updates.
