Know Before You Go: Coachella Valley Road Construction Update
Three major construction projects are impacting Coachella Valley roadways this week, according to Kris Gunterson, Program Manager for the Coachella Valley Association of Government's CV Sync Traffic Management Center.
Active Construction Projects
Rancho Mirage: Highway 111 Slurry Seal
Location: Highway 111 from Jermaine Gibson (west) to Parkview Bob Hope area (east)
Duration: 2.5 weeks starting September 15
Impact: Lane closures with construction equipment present
Alternative Route: Gerald Ford Drive (Frank Sinatra not recommended)
The project will be completed in sections to avoid closing the entire roadway. Drivers should expect both inside and outside lane closures similar to recent La Quinta area work.
Palm Desert: Cook Street Water Line Project
Location: Cook Street
Contractor: Coachella Valley Water District
Status: Ongoing for several months, entering new phase
Impact: Lane closures and traffic signals on red flash
Alternative Routes: Monterey Avenue or Portola Avenue
The project creates significant congestion during school hours. Drivers should avoid the area during morning and afternoon school traffic.
Indian Wells: Washington Street Improvements
Location: Washington Street
Status: Nearly complete
Work Completed: Paving, striping, and ongoing landscaping
Expected Completion: Next week
The project includes road surface improvements designed to handle increased traffic from fall and spring events in the area.
Traffic Management Resources
Detailed project schedules and updates are available through CVAG's CV Sync program. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time in construction zones.
