Riverside County Launches 911 Nurse Navigation Program; Indio Rolls Out Citywide Emergency Alerts
Starting tomorrow, Riverside County residents who dial 911 with non-life-threatening medical concerns may be connected to a nurse instead of an ambulance.
The county’s new 911 nurse navigation program is designed to reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and allow paramedics to focus on serious emergencies. Under the program, trained dispatchers will transfer eligible callers to nurse navigators who can provide consultations over the phone. These nurses will help determine the best course of care, whether arranging a clinic appointment, recommending home care, or scheduling a virtual visit with a doctor.
County officials say the program is a partnership with Global Medical Response, the parent company of AMR, which handles Riverside County’s ambulance services. By offering medical advice and alternatives to an ambulance ride, the program aims to improve patient outcomes while easing the burden on the emergency medical system.
Meanwhile, as part of National Preparedness Month, the City of Indio has announced the launch of its citywide emergency alert system. The alerts will notify residents, businesses, and visitors about urgent public safety situations, including severe weather, road closures, evacuations, and other emergencies.
The service is free, and participants can choose to receive notifications by text, phone call, or email. Alerts are available in both English and Spanish.
To sign up for the alerts, visit www.indio.org/alert.
