Refurbished Vehicles Give Palm Springs Families a Fresh Start Through National Auto Body Council Program
Three Palm Springs–area residents received more than just car keys this week, they were given a renewed sense of independence, stability, and hope for the future.
The refurbished vehicles were donated through the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides Program, which supports veterans, military members, first responders, and families facing difficult circumstances. The presentation took place at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert as part of the National Auto Body Council’s Palm Springs Changing and Saving Lives Fundraiser.
Organizers say reliable transportation can be life-changing, allowing recipients to get to work, attend medical appointments, and care for their families without the constant stress of limited mobility.
One of the recipients, Maria Flores, was nominated by the Variety Children’s Charity of the Desert. She shared how challenging daily life had been before receiving the vehicle, especially while relying on public transportation with her child. The donated car now offers her family greater flexibility and peace of mind.
Local auto body shops and industry partners repaired, refurbished, and repainted the vehicles, ensuring they were safe and reliable for their new owners.
According to organizers, the National Auto Body Council has donated more than 3,750 vehicles nationwide, valued at over $67 million, through its Recycled Rides program — making a lasting impact in communities across the country.
For these families, the gift represents a powerful step forward and a reminder that community support can truly change lives.
