La Quinta Middle School Unveils New Student Broadcast Center
Students at Colonel Mitchell Page Middle School in La Quinta are stepping into the world of broadcast journalism with the launch of a brand-new, professional-grade broadcast center on campus. The studio was created through a collaborative effort between the Bianca Rae Foundation, Desert Sands Unified School District, and the Desert Sands Educational Foundation.
The new facility is designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities in broadcasting, storytelling, and digital media production. Equipped with industry-level cameras, audio gear, and production tools, the space allows students to experience what it’s like to work in a professional studio environment while building practical skills.
Educators say the program goes beyond technical training. It also encourages teamwork, communication, and confidence as students learn to work together to produce content and present on camera. Students have already expressed excitement about learning how to operate equipment, speak comfortably on air, and develop new creative skills.
Community volunteers, broadcast professionals, and local organizations helped design and build the studio, ensuring it reflects real-world standards. The project marks the group’s second student broadcast center, following the successful opening of a similar space last year at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
School leaders say the addition supports project-based learning and helps prepare students for future academic and career opportunities in media and communications.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
